STUDENTS FOR
EPILEPSY TORONTO

How do you help patients with epilepsy through donations?
Donations to Toronto Epilepsy Student Support help fund Epilepsy Toronto’s vital programs. Your contributions make possible counselling services, employment support, educational resources, and public awareness campaigns. These services provide individuals living with epilepsy with tools to manage their condition, navigate daily challenges, and live full, engaged lives. With your help, people affected by epilepsy can access life-skills training, maintain employment, receive emotional support, learn about safety and treatment, and benefit from initiatives that reduce stigma and increase understanding across the community.

About Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a neurological condition that causes recurrent, unprovoked seizures. It can begin at any age and often lasts a lifetime. For many people, the exact cause is unknown.
Living with epilepsy is more than dealing with seizures. Many face challenges in school, work, independence, and mental health. Misunderstanding and stigma can also make daily life harder.
That’s why organizations like Epilepsy Toronto are essential. They provide counselling, education, support programs, and advocacy—but they depend on community donations to continue.
With just $10 per person, together we can make life brighter and more hopeful for people living with epilepsy.

My story
My name is Niknaz Akbarpour, a Life Sciences student at McMaster University. For the past three years, I have been actively and proudly participating in the Epilepsy Toronto fundraising events.
Through these experiences, I have seen how community, compassion, and even the smallest contributions can bring real hope to individuals and families living with epilepsy.
This website is a student initiative; a place where we come together, learn together, and give together. By contributing $10 per person, you’re not only donating—you’re joining a movement that lights the path toward awareness, support, and brighter tomorrows.
Together, as students and as a community, we can make a difference.

Why I choose to stand alongside those living with epilepsy?
Epilepsy doesn’t define the people who live with it. Their dreams, courage, and life stories do. One in every hundred people in Toronto faces this condition and deserves support, understanding, and accurate knowledge about epilepsy. I created this fundraising website in affiliation with Epilepsy Toronto to provide care, opportunities, and hope. The goal is to ensure epilepsy is just one part of their story, not the whole story, and every contribution helps honor them as people first and supports them in living full, meaningful lives.

Epilepsy is one of the world’s oldest known medical conditions, with written records dating back more than 4,000 years.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) – Epilepsy
With the right treatment and support, up to 70% of people with epilepsy can live seizure-free.
